Well, it looked more like a fall to me, but I guess that's just how they must fledge the nest. They seemed to both grow fond of that one spot on the nest.
They both seemed rather comfy for the most part of the day.
This one especially....
The one on the top eventually decided to try standing on the other ones head while flapping it's wings almost took the other one with it when it started to fall. It seemed to find itself a little branch from the honeysuckle to land on, and made itself comfortable there.

I sat back and watched for a bit to make sure the mother hummingbird found this one alright, and she seemed to find it easy enough, and is still feeding, and caring for it.

I have a hummingbird who has been nesting in an arbutus tree a foot away from our deck railing. She laid 2 eggs and they both hatched about 2 and a half weeks ago. The nest is teeny and I had a feeling that it wasn't going to hold them both for very long so I ended up putting these big cushions on the ground below the nest (that's about a 15 foot drop) This morning,I went out to check on them, as usual, and there was only one. My heart skipped a beat and I looked down to see the other one on the cushion below (that god for intution) We have a cat that frequents the area so I knew that leaving it there was certain death so I ended up creating a makeshift nest in a hanging hibiscus basket that hung in on a bigger branch of the same tree that the nest is in..about 3 feet away from the original nest. Putting it back in was not an option as the other baby seemed to have suddenly doubled in size and was taking up the whole nest!! I anxiously watched and waited as the mother eventually found her baby. I can breathe again!
